Hi,
It seems that the group has been a little quiet during my absence so I thought it’s time to stir things up a bit! J Let me put forward some suggestions regarding the questions I posed below:
Mission statement
n Work together to enable the successful adoption of open and interoperable virtual world technologies by:
n Developing open standards to support interoperable virtual worlds based on existing open standards
n Promoting open standards and protocols to support interoperable virtual worlds
n Driving industry adoption of standards into a range of device types
Organizational structure
n Steering Committee
n Working Groups
n Formal development process
n Task Forces
n Free membership (to begin with)
n Members agreement
Priority tasks
n Identify interoperability goals between worlds (content, identity, applications?)
n Identify existing standards addressing the above goals as well as gaps
n Define the virtual world “stack” (architecture and layers)
n Define a virtual world interoperability alliance marketing strategy
Does this sound like a reasonable start? I think it would be cool to meet in world to discuss this further. We can meet at our SL lab which is a private space – please let Mithun Sheshagiri have your avatar names so that he can give you access permission and coordinates. I would like to suggest October 30th, at 10am Pacific – this seems the time that would accommodate most folks on this list in terms of time zones.
As we move forward, we should probably establish an in world space for people to come together and continue the conversation and we should also try and connect this thread/space to the wiki that Peter has set up (http://vwinterop.wikidot.com/).
Please feel free to forward this invitation to other people that participated in the Oct 9th meeting and who would like to take part in the discussion. Looking forward to seeing you all in world,
Victoria (aka Niki Cohen)
